Council Information: Committee Structure
Committees are where the work of the Council actually takes place. The committees are charged by the Chair to review issues and make recommendations to the Council. Council makes its decisions at Council meetings, based upon committee recommendations. Committee meetings are generally closed meetings, while Council meetings are open to the public.
Water and Sewer - This committee is responsible to evaluate the situation in the Community of Miltonvale Park, with respect to water and sewer issues, such as evaluating servicing options and costs, investigating funding opportunities, and preparing short and long term plans for the community, and encouraging sustainability within the community. The committee chair is George Piercey. Members include Tamsyn Cosh-MacKenzie, Don Aitken (resident) and Chair Pryor (ex-officio).
Finance - This committee includes Gail Ling as Finance Chair, Hal Parker and Chair Pryor (ex-officio). They are responsible for the preparation of the budget, the distribution of council approved funds, and the presentation of financial statements.
Planning - The Planning Board is responsible for the oversight of planning and development within the community. The development officer, Sandy Foy, receives development and subdivision applications, and those which are straightforward and comply with the bylaws, can receive timely approval. Applications which may be complicated, or have issues, are reviewed by the Planning Board. The Planning Board includes Councillors Hal Parker as Chair and Sheila MacKinnon and residents Steve Dickieson and Charles MacKenzie and the council chairperson (ex-officio). The Planning Board takes a lead role in revisions of the Official Plan and Bylaw.
Environment and Community Living - This committee with Tamsyn Cosh-MacKenzie (Chair), George Piercey and Sheila MacKinnon is responsible for the supervision of the community park, its park shelter and the summer recreation program, liaising with Communitites 13 Inc., and for developing policies around park use and environmental programs.
Personnel Committee is responsible for the human resource areas of Council, including employee evaluation and workplace policies. Walter Carver is the chair with Hal Parker and Gail Ling as members.
Emergency Measures Committee consists of Councillors Gail Ling (chair), Hal Parker and Walter Carver. They cooperate with authorities of the municipality, neighbouring municipalities and provincial authorities who have been assigned EMO duties, annually annual review the Community’s Emergency Plan, and implement the plan and ensure councillors are up-to-date. They also liaise with the North River Fire Department.
A History Committee may also be established in 2010.
